High Court Library Regulations

  1. The opening hours of the Library are:-
    Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
    Tuesdays, Thursdays 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
    Sundays and Public Holidays Closed

  2. The Library may be used by:-
    • a person who has been issued with a reader's ticket by the Judiciary Librarian upon payment of the fee specified in regulation 4; and
    • any other person authorised in writing by the Judiciary Administrator.

    • Books my be borrowed for use in any court, but they must be returned before the library closes on the same day unless renewed.
    • Books may be borrowed for overnight use after 4:00 p.m. but they must be returned by 9:45 a.m. the next working day excluding Saturday.
    • Borrowing rights only apply to reader's tickets falling within 4(a) below.

  3. A reader's ticket may be issued to the following persons upon payment of the following annual fees:-
    a barrister/pupil barrister/solicitor/trainee solicitor in private practice or government service
    NIL
    a corporate or foreign lawyer $530.00
    a law student $110.00
    others $220.00

  4. When a book, borrowed in the circumstances described by Regulation 3(a)&3(b), is not returned on the due date a fine of $50 per day or part thereof may be imposed.

  5. Any defect in or damage to a book shall be reported to the Librarian immediately it is noticed, and readers and borrowers will be held responsible for loss or damage to any book occurring whilst it is in their charge.

  6. Books marked 'not to be taken away' or with red labels and judgments may not be borrowed.

  7. Smoking is prohibited in the Library.

  8. Briefcases and bags may not be taken beyond the reception desk but must be placed in the lockers provided.

  9. The Judiciary Administrator may, by notice displayed in the Library, make provision for the maintenance of order in the Library and the proper conduct of Library affairs.

  10. Failure to comply with any regulation or notice may, in the discretion of the Judiciary Administrator, result in a suspension of Library facilities.

  11. The regulations made on 28th March, 1994 are revoked.
