Summary of House Rules for the Maintenance of Order and Security on Court Premises

Proper management of court premises is essential to the provision of a safe and secure environment to all court users. These summarize the House Rules to help maintain good order and ensure court security.

Dos and Don’ts on Court Premises

Dos

1. Comply with the house rules and signage. Always follow the instructions and directions that a Judge may give to maintain order and ensure security at a court hearing. Also follow any instructions of the Judiciary staff, security officers, Police and other authorized persons.

2. Comply with security checks when entering those court buildings requiring such checks. Store your belongings in a locker or a designated place when asked.

3. Maintain good order when you are in court premises. Keep quiet if you are staying in an area where court proceedings are in progress (including any area where court proceedings are being broadcast such as court lobbies).

Don’ts

1. Don’t enter an area that is not open to the public or otherwise restricted.

2. Don’t bring weapons or substances that may be used as a weapon or pose a danger to the safety of others, e.g. sharp objects.

3. Don’t bring water or drinks from outside into court premises which are subject to security screening.

4. Don’t :

(i)cause a nuisance to others, create a hazard or damage any property;

(ii)behave dangerously, riotously, or in a disorderly, threatening or intimidating manner; or

(iii)cause any obstruction, annoyance or disturbance.

5. Don’t demonstrate or express grievances outside the designated areas. Don’t display any materials overnight.
